Acupuncture

What is it?

Acupuncture involves gently piercing the skin with extremely fine needles in specific sites on the body. The traditional acupuncture points where the needles are placed run in lines along the body known as meridian lines. Up to 50 traditional points can be found on each meridian. The meridians are usually paired symmetrically on the left and right of the body.

It is used with great effect to treat tender spots and tight bands in muscles, sometimes known as trigger points. The needles remain in the skin for anything between a few minutes and half an hour, depending on the nature of the problem.

What can Acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture is an excellent treatment for chronic conditions such as back pain, sciatica and trapped nerves: one of our osteopaths is trained to use acupuncture on trigger points in muscle groups - often in conjunction with osteopathy techniques.

All our osteopaths are able to advise on the suitability of acupuncture as a potential treatment.
